What Is Symptoms Ovulation?: Cause And Symptoms

Ovulation is the release of an egg cell from the ovary. This event occurs around the 14th day of the menstrual cycle , albeit with a certain intra- and inter-individual variability. Even more subjective is the perception of ovulation symptoms , while for the signs there is greater uniformity. Some women, in fact, experience symptoms such as: tenderness in the pelvic area, abdominal cramps , slight vaginal bleeding , an increase in the volume of the breast or its consistency and greater sexual desire , while for others, ovulation occurs completely asymptomatically .

Furthermore, just before ovulation, it is very common to find changes in the cervical mucus , which becomes more abundant, clear and slippery, in some ways similar to egg white .

A characteristic symptom of ovulation is the slight increase in basal temperature , which remains elevated by about half a degree until the menstrual flow begins . In this regard, it is possible to use a special digital thermometer and take the basal temperature, vaginally or rectally, every morning before getting out of bed. The data collected during each single cycle must be entered in a simple graph: the chances of fertilization are maximum in the two or three days preceding the temperature peak. This ovulation symptom can also prove to be particularly useful as a method of contraception; in this case the couple must abstain from any sexual intercourse from the beginning of menstruation until the third day of temperature increase. All this by virtue of the fact that: there is no way to predict ovulation sufficiently in advance, sperm can survive up to 3-4 days in the neck of the uterus, the egg has a maximum life of 12-24 hours and the day of ovulation can also vary significantly from one cycle to another (while the days that separate ovulation from the next menstruation are always and in any case 14).In addition to learning to recognize the symptoms of ovulation, and in particular the changes in the cervical mucus , it is possible to use special kits sold in pharmacies, capable of detecting the hormonal variations that accompany it through an instantaneous urine test.
